We look through objects to reach history, culture and beliefs.
An object can carry traces of where we come from as well as questions about where we might be going.
Sometimes an object stops being transparent and confronts us as something we cannot fully understand.
TURBINA explores this space of uncertainty, where a piece can become a question, moving between what we recognise and what remains unknown.
Meaning is carried through what an object brings together: matter and memory.
Could the work of the symbol be to connect what is seen with what is remembered, and to allow meaning to endure beyond the object itself?
TURBINA is the collaborative practice of Minerva Capdevila and Mateo Fumero. Through sculptures and objects, they explore the capacity of matter to generate meaning.
Their work brings together references to archaeology, ancient cosmologies, and science fiction to create pieces that seem to exist outside of time: remnants of a distant past or fragments of a possible future. Each work proposes an encounter between material and symbol, approaching the object as a space for interpretation and contemplation.
Founded in Barcelona in 2019, TURBINA has presented its work at Design Miami/, Collectible, and CID – Grand-Hornu Museum of Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture (Belgium). In 2024, the duo completed an artist residency at the Center for Contemporary Ceramics at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).
